For a horror film that supposedly plays out in real time Soft & Quiet is very good. I think the last time I watched a film in real time was probably In the Nick of Time with Johnny Depp.
Soft & Quiet we quickly discover is about a young woman struggling to have a baby who has created a close knit group of like minded women who meet for coffee and cake and to talk about their feelings and issues they have, but there is a serious question of racism that they all bring up, and it quickly becomes obvious what this group is actually about.
There are a number of women in this and they all get their say, all blaming other races rather than themselves. Their discussion frankly is horror in itself but the main horror starts in a store and as things escalate you will find your emotions get stronger and you will likely get angrier as the film goes on.
Soft & Quiet is a tense horror that will leave you reeling as it gets darker and darker towards the end, finishing with a sad yet anticipated end. One of the darker horrors I have seen this year, sometimes the worst monster isn't the result of a bad lab experiment.
