A splendid watch. From writers Ashplant and Mustafa of Amazon series 'The Balkans' we have something trully thought provoking. It's rare for cinema to make you contemplate so much about our own lives and choices but this encourages you to do juat that.

In many ways Ashplant manages the impossible in his ability to master the art of naturalism. His more real-than-life expression throughout avhieves what few actors have demonstrated before. And in doing this the screen becomes an almost mirror to its audience as he invites us to share his emtional journey.

What makes this all the more magical is the depth of the dialogue, encouraging us to question everything, is it real or imagined? Who knows, perhaps no one.

I for one enjoyed the buikding earthquake of Mccarthurs performamce which in contrast to Keepers surrealist style acted to pull dreams into a confused reality. Keeper did apear too stale at times but the quality of Ashplant and McArthur kept the pace and value alive.

The cinematics were astounding and mustafa did a noteworthy job binding together many worlds and styles. You almost wanted more come the end and perhaps it may have benefited from more, a stylistic climax that wrapped the worlds in 1 come the end. But the ends editing or direction does not take away from the ingenuity of the story.

A great debut feature form these filmmakers.

Thanks for your review Charlie O!

From Director Musaab Mustafa we have a very interesting mystery thriller that really puts some tense feelers around your neck. The very start of Marooned Awakening begins in dramatic style with a phone call that gets you on the hook immediately.

Marooned Awakening must have taken ages to film given the number of camera angles. We have some beautiful pictures of the ocean and switch to black and white when Mustafa see's fit.

The acting is in a very sullen and British style, getting to the point without using unnecessary dialogue however it could be argued that some of it appears quite amateur.

What really makes Marooned Awakening is the story. It's about finding the truth not only about a recent accident but also about himself and the script smoothly drives us through this, culminating in a final few minutes where everything becomes clear.

Marooned Awakening is a very good piece of direction that despite lacking huge funds makes the most of a script and uses cinematography and photography to bring us watchers in to the darker side of life on the ocean beaches. In my view, well worth the watch despite it being so very short and I look forward to seeing more of Musaab Mustafa's work in the future.
