One thing that stands out in Pitch Black is the almost perfect mixture of science fiction and horror. When I saw that this movie was a movie starring Vin Diesel, I didn’t expect much from it, but at the end I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised.

There is no claim to a good storytelling in this movie, but the producers and the casts do well to keep you interested in the movie until the end with some really classy action scenes.

However, if you’re looking for a movie with a great story line, I’d suggest you pass this one because you’d probably end up disappointed. The movie’s plot is just good enough, but there is really nothing memorable in it. However, if you enjoy watching endless and maybe needless action in movies, this is for you.

There are plenty of you who are afraid of the dark and if you happened to be someone on this planet after your space ship crashes then you would probably never switch your lights off again. One of Vin Diesel's first films it pits him against nasty biting bird type creatures that only come out at night.

When the ship first crashes you note that there will be plenty of sun light given it has numerous suns, but when all of them disappear for a few days it turns the planet into pure hell, apart from Riddick, played by Diesel who can only see in the darkness and whom hates daylight.

Being able to see these creatures helps him help others and it makes for a good idea for a film. Some of the characters could have been better developed but it gives enough to lead us onto the main storyline which is primarily about Riddick. A good flick if you're into your sci-fi and want something that little bit different to the usual.
