The Fate of the Furious, released in 2017, is the eighth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise. Directed by F. Gary Gray, this action-packed film continues the high-octane adventures of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew, but with a new twist that shakes the foundation of their loyalty and family.

The film takes off with a seemingly unstoppable force turning Dominic against his family, as he is coerced into joining a cyberterrorist named Cipher (Charlize Theron). This betrayal sets the stage for a globetrotting mission that brings together familiar faces and introduces new alliances. Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), and the rest of the crew must join forces to stop Cipher's nefarious plans and bring Dom back into the fold.

The Fate of the Furious delivers on the franchise's signature action-packed sequences, with jaw-dropping car chases, explosive stunts, and larger-than-life set pieces. From the streets of Havana to the icy plains of Russia, the film offers a thrilling visual spectacle that keeps the adrenaline pumping. The action sequences are meticulously choreographed and executed, showcasing the impressive skills of the cast and the creative team behind the film.

While the action is undoubtedly a highlight of The Fate of the Furious, the film falls slightly short in terms of its story and character development. The plot, although engaging, lacks the emotional depth and resonance of some of the earlier films in the franchise. The focus shifts more towards the bombastic action and high-tech gadgets, leaving less room for meaningful character arcs and exploration.

However, the film compensates for its narrative shortcomings with its charismatic cast. Vin Diesel once again embodies the conflicted hero, Dom, while Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham inject a healthy dose of humor and charisma into their respective roles. The ensemble cast, including Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and newcomer Charlize Theron, all deliver solid performances that keep the energy and chemistry of the group alive.

In terms of visuals and production design, The Fate of the Furious excels in capturing the grandiosity and international scope of the story. The film showcases stunning locations, impressive practical effects, and seamless visual effects that enhance the overall spectacle. The sleek cars, high-tech gadgets, and larger-than-life action sequences create a visually captivating experience for fans of the franchise.

While The Fate of the Furious may not reach the heights of some of its predecessors, it still offers an entertaining and action-packed ride. It brings a fresh twist to the familiar formula, introducing new dynamics and challenges for the characters. Fast & Furious enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy in the film's over-the-top action and the camaraderie among the cast.

In summary, The Fate of the Furious delivers on its promise of thrilling action and adrenaline-fueled entertainment. It may lack some of the emotional depth and narrative coherence of earlier entries, but it makes up for it with its high-stakes sequences and charismatic performances. Buckle up and get ready for a wild ride with fast cars, explosive action, and unexpected turns.

After the death of Paul Walker and with this franchise being in its eighth edition, some would think that the producers would have run out of ideas to keep us excited. However, Vin Diesel, Jason Strathan, and Dwayne Johnson still managed to keep us glued to our seats while watching this installation with some action-packed scenes.

This time around to spice things up, the producers decide to turn Toredo against his family and we get to see how they fend for themselves without their head and best driver. This raises the stakes, and the addition of Charlize Theron, an accomplished actress certainly makes things even more interesting.

Theron doesn’t trade blows with the guys which would have made the movie predictable, Jason Strathan and Dwayne Johson also decide to use verbal abuse on each other, that adds some more unpredictability to the movie.

There is so much to marvel at here, like fancy cars travelling in gravity-defying speeds, and some of the stunts show how daring the producers of this franchise are willing to be.

Hard core fans of the 8th Fast and Furious instalment might well be disappointed in this one but the film still delivers on everything it has always had and that's plenty of over-the-top far fetched action sequences.

The storyline is understandable given the loss of certain characters previously but it is highly predictable and they have almost become a franchise in which you just need to guess which of their characters will be killed off and whether the new bad guy will get along with them. There are still plenty of questions to be answered in Fate of the Furious and it's doubtful whether the writers will be bothered to try and answer them.

One thing is for sure, if you're fans of all the others and just want loads of action, guns, fast cars, more guns, explosions whilst leaving your brain in one of your cupboards then you won't go wrong watching this one.
