The Hunger Games Catching Fire Builds upon the success of the first film giving us a greater insight into the world of Panem. With Greater stakes and a new twist on the formula this film manages to overcome the sequel fatigue and be even better than the first film.

Once again the film follows Katniss going into the hunger games, however this time allowing more time for build up establishing life after the first hunger games film.

The first half of the film follows that formula while Katniss and Peta give victory speeches, while the second half follows the protagonists joining forces in the 75th Hunger games. Perhaps most noticeable to me is the freshness of this film, while the first film was great the colour palette was at times too monotonous while the second film follows the characters in a new jungle setting. The fresh setting fits perfectly and is refreshing.

It is truly hard to critique this film and the storybuilding techniques used are fantastic. The film is more thrilling, emotionally engaging edge of the seat action while managing to develop and introduce new characters. Perhaps this is as clsoe as you get to a masterpiece in sequels! 5/5
