There are some horrifying scenes in Pearl and it makes for interesting viewing but I think it's just not quite as good as X. Maybe we shouldn't view it as a prequel? Prequels and sequels are never as good as the original so perhaps Pearl could be watched as a stand-alone film.

There are some excellent horror scenes where Pearl does what Pearl does but if you have watched the trailer then in all actuality you have basically already seen most of it. It's more about how the buildup works in this and it's just about right, paced well and taking you to the "will she/won't she" moments for which we really already know the answer.

I found it very entertaining where she wasn't killing anyone. The dialogue and scenes where she is striving to be someone and faces all the obstacles those seeking fame nowadays likely have to endure.

All in all, if you want a horror to watch this weekend versus others recently released then Pearl should be up there and you won't feel disappointed by the end.
