Netflix Original have finally released Blonde, a look at the life of Marilyn Monroe based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates which makes it very much a fiction rather than a biography.
Originally filmed in 2019, Netflix felt it was a little extreme for their wider audiences so it was delayed a few times before they finally succomed to the version, written and directed by Andrew Dominik.
Oates’ novel does contain graphic scenes which for one reason or another, was decided to be included in the film, has meant a NC-17 rating, described on the MPA as “some sexual content”. For you and I, this means anyone 17 years and under are not permitted to watch.
How that rating is enforced at home will be up to the parents howver the fact that Netflix gave in to the rating rather than re-edit suggests they have bigger films ahead requiring more attention.
