Matthew McConaughey has been chosen to star as coach Bill Kinder in a film about a womens American football team.

The film, which is currently pencilled in to be called Dallas Sting focuses on USA’s first national football team of 1984 which, after being selected mostly from Texas teens, headed to China to play in the first ‘World Championships”.

Dallas Sting was written by the same two who created GLOW, about American female wrestlers in Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive and will be directed by Kari Skogland, whom some will recognise as director of the Marvel Series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Dallas Sting should go into production later this year with New Orleans the likely location. For McConaughey this will be be his third sporting film, having appears in Two For The Money and We Are Marshall in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
