The Independent is semi-decent thriller that aims to be at the heart of American politics. The film is based on a believable conspiracy which is tense at times but did have me drift in and out during specific scenes.
It was very interesting to see John Cena in a less maverick role and he did well in all fairness to him. Brian Cox plays Nick Booker and you'll appreciate from his time in Bourne, he fits the conspiracy/secrecy role very well if not a tad typecast.
For me Ann Dowd steals the show as the candidate for election, having only joined last minute she really put a good shift in. The length of The Independent is watchable for what it is and without giving too much away about the conspiracy it doesn't take much to work out what's going despite a few sharp turns.
The Independent isn't up there with some of the Gene Hackman classics but is very watchable and there is a not-so hidden message in there about US politics.
