This Mickey Ward biopic is a good movie, but I expected a lot more surprise even though it was a movie with a familiar story.

David O. Russell has made his name as a maverick of producer among producers that was one reason I expected some surprise element in this movie. However, this film is just as conventional as any other boxing biopic would be expected to be.

Having an HBO crew following Dicky around for half of the movie wasn’t so impressive to me and I would have expected that in any other movie, but I wanted something a little different.

It must have been a difficult job for Russell to make this movie unique, yet he tries to still create a movie that is filled with emotional complexity and good characters.
