Directed by Scott Leaver, The Devil Comes at Night is a great idea of a film that simply lacks the script and development of characters to make it decent.

Through no fault of their own the actors have little time to develop themselves with The Devil Comes at Night being just over an hour & twenty minutes. I've spent longer in my local newsagents.

Whilst a washed up boxer film has been done before, I'm yet to see one where he has to defend himself against a bag of cult nutjobs and that did make The Devil Comes at Night intriguing but it was very difficult to watch and see onscreen as everything, and I mean everything, was shot at night with the odd torch light shown now and then, this leaves us to rely on the dialogue which was beyond basic.

The story itself is terrifying on it's own and I think you'll probably get more just by reading the synopsis on The Devil Comes at Night above than watching the whole film.

As a horror The Devil Comes at Night doesn't produce the blood gargling theme you would associate with a film including the devil in the title and you could quite easily be forgiven if you were to pop down to your basement one evening with your phone camera on a just walk around talking into it.

You'll feel a slight, tense, unease watching The Devil Comes at Night but no more than that it what is a simple, standard horror by Uncork'd Entertainment.
