Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a very controversial Star Wars film that fans have bashed and praised at the same time. One simply has to look at the rotten tomato score to see the divided opinion of this 8th instalment of the Star Wars Franchise.

Whilst I want to love and praise Ryan Johnson for the risks he’s taking with the franchise, I can’t simply ignore the major problems with the movie. Star Wars: The Last Jedi has some of the best moments in Star Wars history and some worst moments in Star Wars history.

The best parts of this movie are easily the dialogue scenes between Ray and Kylo Ren the protagonist and antagonist of the movie, another praise is Luke Skywalker who has gone threw a lot since we last saw him in Return of Jedi. Some fans have bashed the writing team for how they changed Luke Skywalker, however I believe that the change makes Luke a more relatable character and the 3rd act of the movie has one of the best Luke Skywalker and Star Wars moment in history.

The negatives of the movie include the wasted potential of the character Finn who is pushed aside to go on a side quest with another character that try’s to force down a real world message that seems out of place, there is also a laughably bad scene with Prince Lea, which makes no sense.

Overall Rian Johson creates an unexpected journey with plenty of twists that no one will see coming. Some fans will love this new direction however some will hate it, or fall someone in the middle like me.

Rian Johnson takes some bold risk in this Last Jedi, and we have to say it does pay off. With several questions on our mind from the last Star Wars film, Johnson answers them all in unexpected ways that gives this mythical movie an unpredictable new direction.

Despite the movie taking a whole two-and-half hour of your time, the action, adventure, and drama would keep you glued to your screen as the movie unfolds.

It takes a lot of technical prowess to produce a movie of this magnitude, yet all the technical components of this movie work without any glitch. There is a solid balance between the effects and sound.

Despite taking a new approach, Johnson still gets to give The Last Jedi its distinctive identity in the Star Wars franchise.
