The first twenty minutes of this movie is undoubtedly one of the most famous scenes in cinematic history, portraying a harrowing insight into the life of WW2 soldiers. But the entirety of the film is just as uncomfortable to watch, giving you a newfound respect for the soldiers that sacrificed themselves for our safety in one of the worst wars our world has ever seen.
Directed by Steven Spielberg, and with a magnificent cast list, including Tom Hanks and Matt Damon, Saving Private Ryan was bound to be a big hit and it does not disappoint. The acting is so outstanding by every single cast member that you’re dragged along an emotional ride you can’t take your eyes off.
The direction by Spielberg is once again superb, immersing us into the horrific action. This isn’t a film you will necessarily “enjoy” to watch it’s definitely worth it. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a strong emotional response to any film as I have Saving Private Ryan.
Film could have finished after 20 minutes if the rescue team just happend to suggest they didn't Private Ryan so sod him 🙂 Seriously though a fantastic piece of movie art
This would remain one of my favourite films of all time for a long time coming, and I reckon that is the same for many people who have watched the movie.
I love history and one of the histories that I usually binge on when I am on Wkipedia are war stories, and this has to be the most amazing adaptation of the WWII story ever.
When I saw that Stephen Spielberg directed this movie, I knew it was going to be hit, but I was still amazed by how great this movie is.
This movie depicted war in a very real manner, there is so much turmoil, and from watching it, you can tell how devastating the war was and why it is important that we do all it takes to maintain the peace we’re currently enjoying in the world. This movie is pure excellence.
People go on about the first twenty minutes of Saving Private Ryan and quite rightly, it is a devastating 20 mins of action but the whole film is of the highest quality, putting a strong amount of feelings with a mix of what was the worst War in history. The cast list is superb and there are little mistakes, you top this up with a shake of Tom Hanks and you have one of the best War films you are ever likely to encounter.
