If you haven’t heard of Black Bird then great, you’ve come to the right place. This mini-series by Apple TV, based on the biographical novel ‘Devil: a Fallen Hero, a Serial Killer, and a Dangerous Bargain for Redemption’ by James Keene and Hillel Levin, and developed for TV by Dennis Lehane, really should make your watchlist.
The story follows James Keene, who was a decent young footballer in the USA but turns to crime. He is arrested and given ten years for drugs and weapon related crimes.
The sentence is short lived however as he bargains a deal with the authorities to commute or reduce his sentence in exchange for getting a confession from one of the prisons most dangerous inmates, a serial killer.
The series’ Six episodes are gripping as they are addictive as we get to see how ‘Jimmy’ Keene tries to get the confession as methodically as possible, and with prison being what is it, dodging other obstacles and of course FBI politics.
