Top Gun: Maverick has surpassed expectations and gone above the likes of Titanic at the box office over the weekend, having amassed $662m domestically, $3m more than Leonardo Di Caprio’s ship outing.
Top Gun: Maverick has also taken in $690m internationally which makes it Paramount’s highest grossing film in their existence spanning over 110 years.
What’s very interesting is that it is closing in on Marvel’s box office smash Avengers: Infinity War which stands at $678m domestically so still some $16m away. It’s still some distance from the top five too with Star Wars: The Force Awakens still way in front at number one with $936m.
The data is somewhat skewered though, with numbers not adjusted for inflation. It’s unknown how much longer the Tom Cruise hit will remain on the big screen for it to sneak into the top five, with $7m only being added on this weekend in theaters.
