MGM have made a U-turn on the planned remake of Patrick Swayze’s hard as nails bouncer movie by going back to a male for the lead role.

It was originally decided back in 2015 that Ronda Rousey would take the lead role in a gender swap of the 1989 classic however it has since been changed to feature Jake Gyllenhaal and will have Doug Liman as director.

This will be the first film on which they have worked together, although Liman has worked with the likes of Tom Holland, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Matt Damon and Tom Cruise in the past on films such as American Made and Chaos Walking.

Road House with Swayze was based on expert bouncer James Dalton who moves from New York City to a bar called Double Deuce in Missouri which is renowned for its trouble. He quickly makes changes for the better but trouble remains with one wealthy individual.
