This is the first Studio Ghibil film I have watched and I was impressed. The film was good, funny and enjoyable to watch.

It is about a teen who saves a cat who nearly got killed by a truck, only to notice that he is a Prince. However the Prince's father (the Cat King) asks her to marry the prince and she soon accidentally says yes which leads her to an adventure.

Yuki was my favourite character as she is both a cute and beautiful cat.

Overall it is a good film and I recommend this a fun film for people who love cats such as myself. You won't know how good a movie is until you give it a try.

The Cat Returns is a childhood favourite for me. Based off the Studio Ghibli film ‘Whisper of the Heart’ made in 1995, this film is about a high school student Haru that rescues a cat about to be run over by a truck and discovers the cat is actually a prince named Lune. Out of gratitude, Lune's father, the Cat King, asks her to marry Lune. Haru is brought to the Cat Kingdom, where she starts to develop feline features. When she is prevented from leaving, the Baron and Toto, two statues that have magically been given life, provide assistance in gaining her freedom. This film is actually a lot better than it sounds. Growing up watching it, I only saw the English version and what surprised me most was that for a film that wasn't very mainstream, the cast was full of very well-known actors, such as Anne Hathaway, Tim Curry, Judie Greer, Elliot Gould and Kristen Bell!

The Cat Returns is a memorable, lovable Studio Ghibli film. A couple adjectives that I would have to use for it would be soft, warm, comforting. I find the film to have a mellow tranquil quality to it, and more than anything it has a certain visual aesthetic that I love, as do all the Studio Ghibli/ Hayao Miyazaki films. For the most part Ghibli films remind me of the comforts of home and everyday life, through the simplest of things that are just really satisfying to see.

On the other hand, though, watching it now I find that it's a bit on the cheesy side, containing some corny and almost trite elements that make it appear more as a child’s film, however, it is an enjoyable and definitely a good-feeling movie.

But because its something I got to watch from my childhood, that just means it’s extra nostalgic for me. Criticism’s aside, I’m a sucker for happy endings and for a cat lover and Studio Ghibli fan such as myself its everything I could ever want in a film.
