The Boy Behind the Door, released in 2021, is a gripping and intense thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Directed by David Charbonier and Justin Powell, this independent film delivers a suspenseful and harrowing story that explores themes of survival, friendship, and resilience.

The film follows the journey of Bobby (Lonnie Chavis) and Kevin (Ezra Dewey), two young boys who are kidnapped and trapped in a mysterious house. Separated and faced with unimaginable horrors, they must find a way to escape and outsmart their captors. As they navigate through the dark and unsettling environment, the bond between the two boys becomes their greatest strength.

One of the standout aspects of The Boy Behind the Door is its ability to create an atmosphere of tension and fear. The filmmakers skillfully build suspense through effective use of cinematography, sound design, and a haunting musical score. The claustrophobic setting of the house adds to the sense of unease, making every moment feel unpredictable and nerve-wracking.

The performances by Lonnie Chavis and Ezra Dewey are exceptional, especially considering their young age. They bring depth and authenticity to their roles, capturing the vulnerability, fear, and determination of their characters. Their chemistry and the emotional connection they portray on screen make their friendship and struggle all the more compelling.

The pacing of the film is well-executed, with a gradual buildup of tension that keeps the audience engaged throughout. It expertly balances moments of quiet contemplation with intense sequences of action and suspense, creating a rollercoaster of emotions. The filmmakers effectively utilize visual storytelling and minimal dialogue to convey the emotions and motivations of the characters.

While The Boy Behind the Door is a captivating and well-crafted thriller, it does contain elements of graphic violence and disturbing scenes that may not be suitable for all viewers. It explores dark themes and portrays the harrowing experiences of the young protagonists, which may be distressing for some audience members.

In conclusion, The Boy Behind the Door is a gripping and intense thriller that showcases the resilience and bravery of its young protagonists. With its skillful execution, strong performances, and effective storytelling, it offers a suspenseful and emotionally charged viewing experience. However, due to its intense subject matter, it is recommended for audiences who are comfortable with darker and more disturbing narratives.

This film is not for the faint hearted, the story is a bit grim and whilst the boys hold it together it still wasn’t for me

Keeps you guessing at the beginning. I didn't know what to expect so try not to read a spoiler before you watch it.
