The Big Sick

‘The Big Sick’ is extremely refreshing for what is categorised as a Romantic Comedy, which usually involves a few clichés and a bit of cheesiness. However, this is not overly present in ‘The Big Sick’. The film itself is based on the true story of Emily V Gordon, a comedy producer and writer and Kumail Nanjiani, a stand up comedian, who wrote the script together using some of their own experiences as inspiration for the story of their relationship. This authenticity is reflected in the film’s many themes such as cultural traditions’ v. ‘modern’ ideas. ‘The Big Sick’ will make you both laugh and cry and makes for a comforting feel good movie to watch in the evening.
