Leonardo di Caprio always stars in his movies and he gave an amazing performance here as well, however, I am even more impressed by the directional performance of Scorsese here.

This movie is filled with so many mysteries that you may have to watch it on multiple occasions to be able to really understand some of the hidden messages.

The build up to the final scene is perfect, and I expected a grand finish to the movie after being placed high on expectations by the build up, and it didn’t disappoint me. This movie has perhaps one of the best endings to a movie that you would ever see.

The kind of film which requires - no, demands - a rewatch; ‘Shutter Island’ is a really clever psychological thriller which plays on the brain for long after the credits have rolled. I practically haven’t stopped thinking about it since I watched it yesterday.

It’s an enjoyable story even when you take it at face value, but looking back at it once I know what happens in the end, everything has a second layer which makes it more complex and clever. It’s full to the brim with symbolism and recurring themes, which I have only really noticed in hindsight. Not to mention the great direction, cinematography and performances, which make this film all the better.

I won’t spoil the plot twist, however I will say that it completely changes the narrative. If you want to experience the film in all its glory, go into it without knowing anything. Don’t research, and try your best to stay away from spoilers. It will be worth it. If you know the twist, it will give you an entirely different viewing experience (which you might want to save for the second time around).
