This film will just blow you away!
So where on earth can I begin with this film! I'll tell you when I first went out to the cinema to watch it I was not prepared for such a film. And I am probably not exaggerating when I tell you my mind was BLOWN. Genius director Steven Speilberg took this film to an entirely new level of filmmaking and special effects (not as good as Avatar but still), I kid you not - please watch this film.
Not just this but the storyline itself really piqued my interest - there’s something about dystopian fictions that I just love! I loved the way they created the ‘end of the world’ environment but at the same time made anything seem possible with the virtual reality game OASIS.
Based on the book by Ernest Cline (which by the way after reading just one chapter the other day I can say is just as lit as the movie) the genres taken on are very much sci-fi, fantasy, action/adventure. And it is believed to be any geeks ‘dream film’, however I think the film is for anyone to love, of all backgrounds and ages. It is retro and futuristic at the same time. The amount of pop culture references you will find in this movie is beyond belief. Surprisingly though these references base mainly around 1980’s pop culture. Now if you’re someone like me who likes a bit of retro, you're in for a smashing time.
Call me rash, but I think this film must be one of my new favourite films of all time. Yup. Definitely up there somewhere. I genuinely smiled the whole 2 hours, and hopefully you will too.
And if you get the chance, read the book as well.
Ready Player One in many ways is a return to Steven Spielberg's glory days, as like his classic films Ready Player One contains the magic and adventure that made Indie Anna Jones and ET so great.
Ready Player One is based on the novel of the same name and even though I have not read the book, the movie mange's to get across its message of how as a modern society are obsessed with technology and nostalgia instead of focusing on what really matters are real lives.
The Oasis, which is the virtual reality space where are hero's go to escape the grim future that they live in is portrayed using brilliant animation that allows for some excellent environments and action scenes full of energy. Ready Player One also contains many throwbacks and references to many different movie and video game characters, which are fun to spot. The movie also relies heavily on 80s pop culture, with the synth heavy soundtrack.
The only thing that brings back the rating of the movie is the real world scenes often slow the pace of the movie of an otherwise fun and enjoyable movie that film and video game buffs will love.
This movie is a classic return to form for Stephen Spielberg who has to be one of the best producers as he is a pioneer in the sci-fi genre. In this movie, he shows yet again why he is perhaps the best man to blend reality and fiction together in one movie.
This movie, just like the book brings to light how much of an impact social and digital media is having on our lives, especially how it is distracting us from the real issues we should be dealing with in our lives.
Although this movie has a futuristic story and as such the same kind of execution, the producer models the pop culture of the 80s into it while interknitting it with a social commentary of present scenarios. This does add a unique blend of the past and present into the movie.
Throughout the movie, you would be taking on a sweet ride into a world of fantasy that resembles our present reality in several ways. In the end, this movie's message is simple, we must face reality. A great watch.
