Brilliant acting and brilliant to sing along to while you are watching it 🙂
Beautiful voice. Very hard role I imagine.
Respect for Respect and a new found respect for Jennifer Hudson, she was awesome!
They had to get Respect spot on the mark and I firmly feel that Liesl did just that. It has plenty of soul that runs through your body from the very start to very end.
If you want to watch a musical bio of the highest order then Respect should be at the top of your watchlist.
I was surprised Hudson took this role on. I mean taking on the mantel of portraying Aretha Franklin is a tough ask of anyone. Had it been earlier, I would like to have though that the late Whitney Houston would have been perfect, her voice maybe coming as close to Aretha's as one possibly could.
It's a great bio giving us plenty of drama and fantastic music alongside it to make it a perfect evening of cinema.
I'm no singer so I can't say anything about the singing in a negative way, only to say that Jennifer Hudson was enthralling in the role of Aretha Franklin and her voice was spectacular. Great supporting role by Forest and a role for Marlon Wayans that doesn't match his usual roles, but one in which he does a fine job.
Have to recommend this to anyone, whether interested in music or not as the balance is just right with regards to the singing and the drama. Aretha Franklin was also one of, if not arguably, the best female singer the World has ever heard.
That Jenny Hudson did an excellent job, what a voice she has!
Remarkable woman and a fab film.
Gotta say it was monumental directing by Liesl Tommy given it was her debut on the big screen.
