I have mixed reactions about this film. I have watched this film a few times and actually it was an impressive musical. This film was made in 1968 but it is set in Victorian times. The songs were catchy and it made me sing some of the lyrics in some of the songs.
As someone who isn’t really into 60s films, I didn’t think it is dated and I did find it interesting so I didn’t feel bored watching it.
However, although it didn’t scare me, but the ending of this film did seem scary. Spoiler: one of the characters gets beaten up by Bill Sikes, I think this film didn’t look like a kids movie after seeing what I saw.
I also didn’t like how some of the women are represented in this film, which is one of the reasons why I’m not into 60s movies.
I think everyone should watch this film but I don’t think it is suitable for kids.
This is a sweet musical movie about a boy who is learning to face difficulties of life and the movie does well to portray how he really outgrows the challenges that he faces along the way.
This movie is very colorful and the amazing camera work really does brighten the screen while you are watching it, and that helped me to really catch on with the energy on display.
Technically speaking, there is so much richness to the movie, from the costume design to the background scores and music. There could have been a better editing work done on it, but the more than 2 and half hours wouldn’t seem so long if you enjoyed the movie like I did.
