This movie can be very disturbing at one time and then funny the very next time. It is a good portrayal of the bigotry that was rampant in Britain in the 1970s. Despite its story looking like a negative one, the movie is still quite authentic and touching in a very unique way.

Maxine Peake delivers one of his finest performances yet in this movie, while the likes of Lindsey Coulson and Alun Armstrong were also almost flawless in their roles as Peake’s alcoholic mum and a comic respectively.

This movie perfectly shows just how far we have come in the world and especially in Britain and gives you some insight into how things use to be. I enjoyed watching this one.
