Rather I hadn't
A psychological horror-thriller, Would You Rather is an intense commentary on human instinct and, as our lead antagonist puts it: "decision-making in its rawest form".
A relatively generic set of players make up this game of death. From the selfless Lucas to the sadistic and generally irritating character of Amy, the diverse cast often feels underdeveloped, with only Iris, our main focus, being given much of a backstory. This lack of context plays to the strengths of some characters, however, with the question marks over their motives contributing more to the depth of the narrative than any clear motive could.
Stellar performances from Enver Gjokaj as Lucas and Jeffrey Combs as Shepard Lambrick are the standouts in this relatively well-acted affair.
Is Would You Rather a relic of modern cinema? Of course not. But as horror films go, this certainly isn't one to skip.
