'Stand By Me' is a classic, and for good reason. If you're trying to find the perfect coming-of-age story, this is it - it is the best example of characters changing that I have ever seen.
Despite the fact that the story is set over just a couple of days, the main characters grow more than you would think is possible. At the end of the film, the boys arrive back in their hometown of Castle Rock, and I had to remind myself that these were the same characters that we started off with in the treehouse at the beginning; joking around and generally being kids. They seemed like different people entirely.
It is rare nowadays that child actors are as compelling as the ones shown here. My eyes were stuck to the screen for the duration, and I loved it.
