Two half brothers are reunited after their father dies. Together they learn more about him and themselves.

Raymond and Ray was very funny without the morbidity that I had expected if two sons were tasked with digging their fathers grave. It had its dark moments but it was more about how the half brothers dealt with how their father had treated them during life.
Obviously not quite knowing your father does lead to some surprise jokes and Hawke and McGregor act this out with aplomb. They are both great in their own ways but they work brilliantly well together as Raymond and Ray.
They don't know each other at all so they have to get to know each other and that adds to the comedy, especially as they come from polar opposites and of course each has their own reaction to the stories they learn about their recently deceased dad.
Raymond and Ray is more of a comedic drama than black comedy and for me it has worked out very well, both from the laughing aspect, the chemistry of the two main actors, and from the way we see them both grow and develop during the film.
If you want a few laughs over a weekend then Raymond and Ray will give you just that plus a few extras. Well worth a watch in my opinion.
