I grew up a massive Disney fan, and absolutely loved The Incredibles when the first movie came out, so I was so happy to hear there was a second one being made and after reading that it took 10 years to make, I knew it was going to be good. One thing I particularly love in this movie is how comedic it is, everyone in the cinema couldn’t stop laughing at Jack-Jacks new powers and Bob’s attempt of control. I also really like how they’ve adopted a subtle feminist message in there by imposing the reverse of traditional stereotypes, and having Helen go out to work leaving Bob at home to deal with the kids. This year has been filled with releases of sequels, such as Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, this one, Disney’s Mary Poppin’s Returns and Fantastic Beast’s and Where to Find Them 2.
This movie follows the Parr family as they use their powers to save their city just like the instalment before it. They eventually come up against Screenslaver who is the villain of the movie.
I was one of the people who questioned whether there was any need for a sequel to Incredibles, but even if I didn’t think it was needed at the time, I have to admit this is one of the rare sequels that actually lived up my expectations.
It took more than a decade to make, but after watching it I think it was worth the wait. The way Brad Bird brings modern-day life to us through superheroes is quite impressive especially when he shows just how challenging it can be to achieve work and life balance even if you have super powers.
One thing that stands out from these two instalments is that Bird is actually very observant of a close family life and in this movie, he helps show you why you should appreciate your parents and siblings.
