Decent adaptation of Fantastic Mr Fox. Odd style by the director but then I hear he's slightly odd when it comes to direction. Think it's a bit like Marmite for kids on this one

A wonderfully written story turned to film that works despite the small changes made for the film adaptation. Some classy characters and plenty of bad guys makes Fantastic Mr Fox an enjoyable film for parents and children. There's also a good moral or two in this one too 🙂

Wes Anderson is one of the most stylistically innovative filmmakers working today, and ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ is a brilliant example of how he manages to put his distinctive mark everything he makes - even on animation. Not only is the director’s style evident in the dialogue, telling a well-known story in a new way; but the film is beautiful in nearly every frame. The autumnal colours shine through the screen, the character’s design is messily gorgeous, and of course, the camera angles and shot lengths are immediately recognisable. I was fortunate enough to be able to experience the process of physical animation first hand on the set of Anderson’s latest film, ‘Isle of Dogs’. This gave me a new-found respect for the style, which made watching ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ all the more incredible. Made with meticulous detail, these films take so much patience and hard work over a long period of time, and everybody involved should be commended.

Despite being based on a children’s novel, the film seems to appeal more to adults. While it contains an entertaining narrative for children, the heart of the film lies in the lessons it teaches, which are valuable for people of all ages. It centers around an adult character, Mr. Fox, who is struggling with trying to be a ‘family man’ when his wild animal instincts are telling him to be a thief. The story of growth, old habits, friendship, and learning to embrace who you are, really appealed to me and I understand why it has to so many people.

I thought this was a movie for kids so I bought it for my younger sister who was 9 at the time, well; it isn’t a movie for kids after all. I did not really see a character that appealed to me, and I thought the word ‘Cuss’ was overused perhaps because the movie makers wanted to avoid swearing more than they did in the movie.

There are positives to the movie though. One positive I found was that the producers really did a great job in the stop motion animation and the visuals were quite impressive.

Although my sister did not enjoy the movie and thought it was an adult movie made in an animation format to capture the minds of the young. I did enjoy some of the comedy.

I was also impressed by the dialogue among the characters and the voices behind the animated characters made the movie enjoyable for me, but I do feel it is a movie for grownups only.
