Finally had the time to watch Emily The Criminal and was not disappointed. I'm starting to be very impressed with Aubrey Plaza. She took this one on and basically smashed it.
It's very realistic and shows how a woman can be brave in some awful situations. There's a tiny bit of romance in there but if this film was mentioned to me in a few weeks it would be her immediate revenge with a taser. Very tense, and once again a great performance from Plaza.
This was right up my street! Emily The Criminal shows you can have female heroes without the superpowers and still come out strongly. Aubrey Plaza probably gives us her best performance yet as a woman down on her luck with debt and desperate to change things around any way how.
Her performance, aided by the brilliant direction of John Patton Ford gives us an hour and a half of good tense criminal drama. My only nit pick would be that it was only an hour and a half. If there is ever an extended cut, I'll be first in the queue to watch it.
Watch Emily The Criminal with either a nice glass of red or a high quality, expensive single malt and you've got the perfect evening.
